Economic Soul Radio aims to provide a forum for strategic conversations about events and circumstances that impact African American people and communities. Roughly translated, that means that we will talk about anything and everything, because all of it affects our communities. All of it, from politics and policy to finance, health and foods to entertainment, and much more have direct impact on our daily lives.
We’ve selected some key themes, because their impact is immediate and it’s happening NOW. The Black Beauty and Hair Industry is always foremost on our minds because just about everybody is involved one way or another. We aim to continue the serious (and not so serious) dialogue that has been ongoing for some time. We hope that the conversations will compel people in our communities to seek ways to take advantage of the gaps in ownership and get involved in the business side of this industry. Many already have stepped into the breach, and we will be calling on them to share their experiences.
There are so many aspects of Financial Intelligence that we don’t know where to begin exploration. We’ll be reaching out to the Money people to engage in conversations about how people can realistically get funds to support a sustainable business. We’ll be talking to people in the Green Industry, the Health industry, and more. We aim to look at this from a resources perspective, and gain insights that lead to action.
We have been involved in working with young people in our respective communities for decades. This passion will carry over to our show, where we hope to bring together people who are in the process of implementing grassroots and/or more broad-based activities that bring jobs and entrepreneurial know-how to our urban youth. Our families, our communities, and the nation need this kind of focus from as many sources as possible.
Education, for everyday applications and for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines, is near and dear to our hearts. Everyday application is important because, if you can’t read nothing much matters. Our perspective will be “how can we collectively improve this situation.” STEM needs all our support because these disciplines define how we live tomorrow. We can’t afford to be left out of this process. Who is doing something about it in a way that reaches our urban and rural communities in numbers that make a difference? We’ll be looking for those people and inviting them into the conversation. We’ll also ask them to share resources so we can make them available to you here.
We will look to ourselves and our guests to come armed with ideas, opinions, and FACTS. Our communities suffer from “word of mouth” taken as pure Gospel. We can’t afford to perpetuate myths; too much is at stake. So, while we won’t have the staff to “fact check” everything, we’ll do our best to follow up on key points and make our findings available here at Economic Soul Radio.
As importantly, we hope to have fun while we try to bring meaningful conversations and resources to our listeners.
